Study maps effects of acupuncture on the brain
This is a very interesting article. Hopefully, as the effect of acupuncture is more greatly understood by western science the skeptics will fall by the wayside.
ScienceDaily (2010-02-05) — New research about the effects of acupuncture on the brain may provide an understanding of the complex mechanisms of acupuncture and could lead to a wider acceptability of the treatment.
Preparing for Purification: Getting Organized
Getting prepared for the Purification Program is essential to get the maximum benefit. Remember the old adage, “Prior planning prevents poor performance”! (Say that 3 times fast…)
Seriously, having a plan is essential to get the results that you want. First you have to pick a start date. It’s a target and a deadline and both are great motivators. Put it on your calendar and make a list of things that have to get done before that date!
So, what has to get done?
First, you need some basic supplies to be organized. You are going to be responsible for your entire food intake over the 21 days. There are a lot of challenges like the junk food at work or having lunch out with friends or your work mates. To do this program right you have to have your food on hand at all times to avoid the bad food choices created by hunger.
You will need to pack everything you will need to get through your day! This of course requires some basic preparation. You will need a bunch of clear re-sealable containers that you can pack the variety of foods you will be taking with you everyday. I just picked up the Glad Ware containers at Target and a medium sized soft sided cooler to pack them in. The total cost was about $25. In the cooler I can also pack a couple of liter bottles of water so I can monitor my water intake as well.
In the SP Purification Guide there is a grocery list on the last page you can use to shop. Prepare a menu from that list and write out your meals for 4 days. You want to buy your veggies every 4 days or so, that way you have fresh food, full of nutrition.
Once you do your shop, don’t put your groceries away! Spend an hour or so chopping up your veggies and cooking your chicken and fish for quick meals. Pack each of your meals ahead of time so that all you have to do in the morning before you head out is pack your cooler with what you will eat that day! If you are doing a shake during the day, make a double batch in the morning and throw the rest into a thermos or nalgene bottle. I will be posting a video of my shopping and meal prep later this week.
Lets summarize:
Have a menu plan
Shop from your list
Have clear re-sealable containers on hand to pack your meals in.
Have an adequate sized cooler to bring everything you need to eat when out of the house.
